Asia: UAE, est. 1971

In the 19th century, the area was a collection of small, semi-independent tribal sheikhdoms under British protection. After the British withdrew from the region in the 1960s, the seven sheikhdoms united to form the UAE (United Arab Emirates) on December 2, 1971. The colors represent Arab unity and pan-Arab ideals: red symbolizes courage, green represents prosperity, white signifies peace, and black denotes strength. The flag reflects the UAE’s union of seven emirates and its aspirations as a modern, unified nation.
