Thailand, formerly known as Siam was never colonized by European powers, despite efforts by France and Britain in the 19th century. The kingdom transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy in 1932. In 1949, it officially became known as Thailand.
The Thai flag, known as the Triranga (“Three Colors”), was adopted on the 28. September 1917 in an effort to standardize a national flag for Thailand and unify the country's identity. It features horizontal stripes of red, white, and blue, representing the nation, religion, and monarchy, respectively. Introduced during World War I by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), the symmetrical design symbolizes balance and unity in the kingdom.
