Asia: Saudi Arabia, est. 1932
Saudi Arabia was under British influence in the early 19th century, which was divided into smaller kingdoms and tribal territories. After the unification of the various tribal regions of the Arabian Peninsula in 1932, a flag for Saudi Arabia was adopted.
It features a green field with white Arabic text of the Islamic Shahada (“There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger”) above a horizontal sword. Green symbolizes Islam, while the sword represents justice and strength. The flag must never touch the ground or be lowered, reflecting its sacredness as a symbol of Islam and Saudi sovereignty.
