Europe: Russian Federation, est. 1993
Russia's history as a unified state dates back to the 9th century with the establishment of Kievan Rus, which later fragmented into various principalities. The Russian Empire was officially founded in 1721 under Tsar Peter the Great. The empire lasted until the Russian Revolution of 1917, which led to the establishment of the Soviet Union in 1922-1991. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia became an independent federation.
The flag of Russia, first introduced in 1696, consists of three horizontal stripes: white, blue, and red. These colors represent the traditional values of nobility (white), loyalty (blue), and courage (red). The flag was reinstated after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, symbolizing the new Russian Federation.
