Europe: Republic of Poland, est. 1919.
Poland was established as a kingdom in the 10th century, but after a series of partitions in the late 18th century, it ceased to exist as an independent state from 1795-1918. Following World War I, Poland regained independence in 1918. During World War II, Poland was invaded by both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, and it remained under communist rule after the war until the collapse of the UDSSR in 1989.
The flag of Poland, adopted in 1980, consists of two horizontal stripes: white on the top and red on the bottom. White symbolizes peace and purity, while red represents the struggle for independence and the blood shed by the Polish people.
