Europe: Croatia, est. 1991
Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia on June 25, 1991, following the breakup of the federation. This led to the Croatian War of Independence (1991–1995), after which Croatia emerged as a sovereign state. Today, it is a member of the European Union and NATO, known for its Adriatic coastline and historic cultural landmarks.
The Croatian flag features three horizontal stripes—red, white, and blue—traditional Pan-Slavic colors. At its center is the national coat of arms: a red-and-white checkerboard shield (the "šahovnica") topped by five smaller shields representing historical regions. The design symbolizes national unity, heritage, and the resilience of the Croatian people.
