Asia: Georgia, est. 2004

Georgia gained independence from the Soviet Union on the 9. April 1991. Shortly after, the Regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia joined the Russian Federation resulting in a civil war. In the wake of the Rose Revolution (2003) and the push for a new era of governance and modernization, Georgia adopted the Five Cross Flag in 2004 to symbolize the nation's renewed focus on unity, independence, and its christian heritage as it was one of the first countries to officialy adopt christianity.

While the main cross symbolizes christianity, the smaller crosses symbolize the four regions of ancient Georgia. The design itself is said to reflect Georgia's commitment to Christianity and its historical legacy as a Christian kingdom.
