Historic: Flag of the Austrian Imperial Navy (1867-1915)

The Austrian Imperial Navy was established in the late 18th century, initially under Emperor Joseph II to assert Austria’s influence in the Adriatic Sea. It grew significantly after the creation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1867, becoming a regional power focused on the Mediterranean. During World War I, the navy engaged in battles against Italy and Allied forces but was ultimately outmatched. Following the empire's collapse in 1918 after the war, the navy was dissolved with the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
