Asia: Armenia, est. 1990

Armenia, one of the oldest countries in the world, became one of the first nations to adopt Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD. Throughout the centuries, Armenia faced invasions and rule by various empires, including the Romans, Byzantines, Persians, and later the Ottoman Empire. After a brief period of independence, Armenia became part of the Soviet Union in 1922. Following the declaration of independence in 1990 and the collapse of the UDSSR in 1991 Armenia adopted the tricolor which was originally used during the First Republic of Armenia (1918–1920).

Red symbolizes the bloodshed for freedom, blue represents the Armenian skies, and orange signifies the nation’s courage and industriousness.
