Asia: Flag of Israel, est. 1948
The Israeli flag was officially adopted in 1948 following the country’s declaration of independence. Its design, featuring a blue Star of David between two blue horizontal stripes on a white background, originated from the Zionist movement in the late 19th century. First unveiled at the First Zionist Congress in 1897, the flag is inspired by the tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl.
The Star of David, an ancient Jewish symbol, reflects the unity and identity of the Jewish people. The flag embodies the aspirations of Jews worldwide for a national homeland, realized with the establishment of the State of Israel.
